Jazz legends are making their way to Korea in May.
A trio featuring pianist Brad Mehldau, bassist Christian McBride, and drummer Marcus Gilmore will perform at GS Arts Center in Gangnam, Seoul, on May 20. Additionally, 20-time Grammy winner and jazz icon Pat Metheny will take the stage at the same venue from May 23 to 25.
The performances are part of a concert series jointly presented by GS Arts Center, which opens officially in April, and Seoul Jazz Festival. The festival, now in its 17th edition, takes place May 30 to June 1 at Olympic Park.
Mehldau is widely recognized for bridging classical and popular music, reinterpreting songs by The Beatles and Radiohead, and pushing the boundaries of jazz piano. Joining him is McBride, a nine-time Grammy winner, host of NPR’s radio program "Jazz Night in America," and artistic director of the Newport Jazz Festival. Drummer Gilmore, known for his innovative style, contributed to the soundtrack of Pixar’s animated film "Soul."
Meanwhile, Metheny, renowned for his collaborations with legends like Herbie Hancock and David Bowie, has played a pivotal role in expanding the horizons of jazz. In 2018, he was honored as an NEA Jazz Master, the highest recognition in American jazz. Fans can look forward to exclusive unreleased tracks during his upcoming performance in Seoul.
Tickets will be available for purchase starting Wednesday through the GS Arts Center and Interpark Ticket websites.
